Tagging with Pre-scanned EID Tags: APPLY TAG IN LEFT EAR

Each set of tags (click here to order) comes with a worksheet listing the EIDs and providing space for additional individual animal information. The tags are placed in a tray in the order they are listed on the worksheet. Be sure to check the numbers occasionally to verify that the number of the tag and the number on the worksheet are a match. Please write clearly and use a pencil or pen that will not smear or smudge on the card in the elements.

  1. Remove the tag from the tray, starting in the upper left corner with the tag labeled "1". Tags are placed in the trays in rows from left to right and then down to the next row.
  2. Apply the tag in the left ear according to the enclosed instructions and pictures. (The left ear has become the industry standard for EID tags.)
  3. Minimum information requirements on the worksheets are Visual Tag # (if applicable), Gender, and Birth date of First Calf. Vaccine information can also be provided.
  4. Occasionally verify the numbers match up.
  5. Return the worksheet to the Montana Beef Network for data entry as soon as you are finished tagging.
  6. If you are a carcass data customer, don’t forget to communicate your buyer information to the Montana Beef Network.
